The 20th Anniversary of the Annan Plan (2): Did the 'No' Vote from the Republic of Cyprus Protect All Cypriots? (Tr: Annan Planı’nın 20. Yılı (2): Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti’nin ‘Hayır’ı Tüm Kıbrıslıları Korudu Mu?)

The Annan Plan, still glorified to this day, foresaw the dissolution of the Republic of Cyprus. It was supposed to be a "virgin birth" on the island.

Within 24 hours of the plan's acceptance, the Republic of Cyprus would be dissolved. What then? What followed was a huge unknown.

For years, the phrase "independent Cyprus" has been circulating in our language, hasn't it? So let me ask you a question: can a state that continues to host the soldiers of different imperialist powers become an "independent" state?

Yes, the Annan Plan foresaw the dissolution of the Republic of Cyprus; however, it preserved one thing: the Guarantee Treaty.

Was a plan that would destroy the existing state while also protecting the imperialists on the island and dragging the Cypriots into uncertainty really a logical plan?

Last week, we talked about the flag of the Annan Plan; we discussed how it represented Turkey in red, Greece in blue, but lacked any representation of the Cypriots...

These small details are important precisely because they summarize the big picture they are a part of.

Some of you may say, "But it says so in the UN Parameters." Does the UN Parameters really say, "The Republic of Cyprus must be dissolved"? Populist politicians are making this up and dragging you into believing it.

I am deeply saddened. Because neither the Republic of Cyprus nor the solution model discussed worldwide involves the dissolution of the Republic of Cyprus; it says, "The solution to the Cyprus problem, whether unitary or federal, will be under the umbrella of the Republic of Cyprus."

Indeed, while it could have achieved a solution by amending the Constitution of the existing state, destroying the state, creating a "vacuum" on the island until new agreements are made would only be tantamount to shooting oneself in the foot for the Cypriots.

It was clear from the outset that the Annan Plan was a concoction orchestrated by the imperialists, serving only their interests. The "no" vote from Cyprus may not have solved the Cyprus problem, but it protected all Cypriots and their state.

I will end today's article with a heartfelt remark from a dear friend of mine:

"If the Republic of Cyprus didn't exist right now, I wouldn't be sitting here side by side with my Cypriot friend, nor would we be able to run as candidates on the same ballot. I don't want to lose the opportunities that the Republic of Cyprus has given us."

Günümüzde bile hala göklere çıkarılan ‘Annan Planı’, Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti’nin yıkılmasını ön görüyordu. ‘Bakir doğum’ olacaktı Kıbrıs adasında.

Planın kabulünden 24 saat içerisinde Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti feshedilecekti. Sonrası mı? Sonrası ise kocaman bir bilinmezlik.

Yıllardır “bağımsız Kıbrıs” diye bir söz dolanmış dilimize, değil mi? O zaman sizlere bir soru: farklı emperyalist devletlerin askerlerini barındırmaya devam eden bir devletten, ‘bağımsız’ bir devlet olur mu hiç?

Evet, Annan Planı, Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti’nin yıkılmasını öngörüyordu; fakat koruduğu bir şey vardı: Garantörlük Antlaşması.

Hem elimizde bulunan devleti yıkıp hem de adanın üzerindeki emperyalistleri koruyacak, Kıbrıslıları bilinmezliğe sürükleyecek bir plan, gerçekten mantıklı bir plan mıydı?

Geçen hafta Annan Planı’nın bayrağından bahsetmiştik; üzerindeki Türkiye kırmızısından, Yunanistan mavisinden, Kıbrıslıların nasıl temsil edilmediğinden…

İşte ufak detaylar tam da bundan dolayı önemlidir; çünkü parçası oldukları büyük resmi özetlerler bizlere.

Kıbrıs’ı emperyalistlere temsil etmek için hazırlanan bir planın, üzerinde Kıbrıslıları temsil eden tek bir öğesi bulunmayan bayrağı, her şeyi anlatıyor işte bizlere, daha ne olsun…

“Ama BM Parametrelerinde öyle yazıyor,” diyecek içinizden bazıları. BM Parametrelerinde “Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti yıkılması gerek” mi yazıyor gerçekten? Popülist siyasetçiler uyduruyor, sizleri de inanmaya sürüklüyor.

Çok üzülüyorum. Çünkü ne Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti’nin ne de tüm dünyanın konuştuğu çözüm modeli Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti’nin yıkılmasını içermiyo; “Kıbrıs sorununun çözümü, üniter ya da federal fark etmeksizin, Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti çatısı altında olacaktır” diyor.

Zaten elindeki devletin Anayasası’nı değiştirerek bir çözüme kavuşabilecekken, devleti yıkmak, yeni yapılacak antlaşmalara kadar adada, isteyenin istediği gibi at koşturabileceği bir ‘boşluk’ yaratmak, ancak Kıbrıslılar için kendi topuğuna sıkmaktan farksız bir senaryo yaratacaktır.

Annan Planı’nın en başından beri emperyalistler tarafından düzenlenen bir kurgu olduğu aşikardı, sadece onların Kıbrıs üzerindeki çıkarlarını gözetiyordu. Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti’nden çıkan ‘hayır’ ise, belki Kıbrıs sorununu çözmedi; ancak tüm Kıbrıslıları ve devletlerini korudu.

Sevdiğim bir arkadaşımın yüreğime oturan bir sözü ile bitireceğim bugünkü yazımı:

“Eğer şu an Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti olmasaydı, ben burada Kıbrıslırum arkadaşımla yan yana oturuyor olmayacak, ayni oy pusulasından aday giremeyecektim. Ben, Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti’nin bizlere sunduğu bu imkânı kaybetmek istemiyorum”

We Are Moving Away from Solving the Mixed Marriage Problem! (Tr: Karma Evlilik Sorununa Çözüm Bulmaktan Uzaklaşıyoruz!)
